First Time No.1: Create a Blog

Howdy! It’s been years since I tried writing and posting it on the web. I used to have a friendster blog (now a social gaming community) and multiply account (now an online social community e-commerce site) and most of the things that I post there are just random word plays without any specific topics or a targeted audience. It was mostly an online diary where I just threw random ramblings. Honestly, I do not see my self as a writer. In fact, I think writing is one of my waterloos. There are a lot of things that I think I excel (music, cooking, computer gaming, marketing, photoshop, etc.) but I think writing is not one of those.

So why still create a blog? There are  tons of reasons why people create a blog. And there are about 950,000,000 search results google can find online. shares a list of the Top Ten Reasons to Blog which are as follows:

  1. To Express Your Thoughts and Opinions
  2. To Market or Promote Something
  3. To Help People
  4. To Establish Yourself as an Expert
  5. To Connect with People Like You
  6. To Make a Difference
  7. To Stay Active or Knowledgeable in a Field or Topic
  8. To Stay Connected with Friends and Family
  9. To Make Money
  10. To Have Fun and Be Creative

So what’s it for me? I’d just like to have something to look back and remember my life’s first times and share it to the world. I believe that most of the most exciting and most memorable parts of our lives are those we experienced for the first time and the best way to keep it in our memory box is to maintain and create a blog.

As this blog is about the things I did, am doing and plan to do for the first time,  I’d like to write and remember the things when it happened the very first time – how scared I was when I was first thrown off from a cliff (Bohol’s Danao Plunge), how freakingly cold it felt at the top of a mountain (First Trekking Experience at Mount Pulag), how fun and exhausting it was to ride a rubber boat on rapids (Cagayan De Oro  White Water Rafting), how nervous I was to sing on a wedding being not a singer myself, how happy I was when I first landed on my professional job, how fun it was to travel on a virgin Island with friends (Calaguas Trip with Travelmates), and other first time experiences. More than keeping photos and sharing videos, creating a blog such as this would help me gather these things in one portal and sharing it to others.

As they say, you only get one shot on your firsts so better make it count.

How about you? Why do you write? Why do you have a blog? Care to share? 🙂

  1. While the Googled reasons for starting a blog are all valid in a general sense, the reasons you outline for yourself have value for you , the writer. Sounds to me like you have a vision. Start writing and realize your vision.

    • Thank you sir! I’m really suprised to receive a reply at this very point since I have just started blogging (again) just a few hours ago – true enough that one could really be heared in just a matter of seconds and in a few clicks away when blogging. I am practically new in blogging and I hope to learn the ways as the days pass. I’m really excited to explore this new endeavor!

  2. “In fact, I think writing is one of my waterloos.” I don’t think so!
You did very well in this post!!! There are rules here and there, but the best play of words comes naturally when what you want to say is what pleases you first and foremost. In short, from the heart. Always.

That’s what I felt in this entry.

Congrats, Vier! Finally! Galing. More, more! ^_^

    • Hi Len! Thanks for dropping by and reading my very first post! It really feels good when you learned that someone’s reading and replying on your work. A simple “like” or a “comment” somehow, it gives you the idea that you did something that matters.

I might say, I’m not one of those fancy writer out there. I just put words together that pops out of my head and try to make sense out of it. But yeah, you’re right. When words comes from the heart, I think you can never go wrong!

Hoping to learn a lot from writers and experienced bloggers like you!

See you soon! More exciting first things to us! 🙂

  3. Wishing you good luck in your new adventure 🙂 i am not a writer either but i like to share things with people and do a little socialising. Thats how i met you :-))

    • Hi Rosamond! Thanks! The world is huge place but it gets smaller with the internet and online media. Meeting people and sharing stories are now just a few clicks away. Hope to share more first time and beginner’s stories with you soon!

  4. Hi Vier – I love the concept of this blog – the first time – what a great idea! I wish you the best of luck with this. I’m working on setting up a blog to chronicle the start of a new chapter in my life. My husband and I will retire and travel the world in four months. I want to use the blog as a way to keep my family informed because I really don’t like facebook.

    • Hi there Kimtisha! Wow! Thanks for reading my entry. Haven’t really updated this yet cause I’ve been busier, finally got my self a regular corporate work – for the first time (I’ll soon post it here)! 🙂

So, you’re planning to travel the world! Nice! I hope you could visit my country – Philippines. You’ll love it here! Send me a message when you have your blog site so I could follow it too.

And yeah, I think it’s ok to have facebook account but you get to have that “personalized” feel when you have a blog site.

Anyway, good luck on your new endeavors and on your retirement! You deserve to enjoy life! 🙂
